Wildcats win 42-34 in offensive shootout

**Bethune-Cookman Outduels Mississippi Valley State 42-34 in High-Scoring SWAC Affair**

**DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.** – Bethune-Cookman University’s Wildcats unleashed an offensive torrent on Saturday, October 28th, securing a 42-34 victory over Mississippi Valley State in a thrilling Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) matchup at Daytona Stadium. The Wildcats, propelled by an electrifying performance from all-purpose threat Omari Hill-Robinson, moved to 3-6 overall and 3-4 in conference play, while the visiting Delta Devils remain winless at 0-8 overall and 0-5 in the SWAC.

Hill-Robinson was the undeniable star for Bethune-Cookman, finding the end zone three different ways. He hauled in a one-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cam’Ron Ramson, returned a punt a dazzling 70 yards for another score, and then punched in a one-yard rushing touchdown. His versatile effort proved to be the difference-maker in a game that saw both offenses clicking.

Wildcats quarterback Cam’Ron Ramson had a solid day under center, completing passes for 154 yards and tossing a touchdown to Hill-Robinson. Ramson also contributed on the ground, adding 45 rushing yards and a score of his own. Running back Dacarri Allen-Johnson further bolstered Bethune-Cookman’s ground attack, muscling in for two one-yard rushing touchdowns, underscoring the team’s ability to finish drives inside the red zone.

“Omari Hill-Robinson was exceptional today,” said Bethune-Cookman head coach Raymond Woodie Jr. after the game. “He made plays when we needed them most, and that punt return was a game-changer. Our offense showed a lot of grit, and our guys fought hard to protect the lead.”

Mississippi Valley State, despite their winless record, showed remarkable resilience and made the game a tense, back-and-forth battle for all four quarters. Delta Devils quarterback Caleb Johnson was a force, orchestrating their comeback attempts. Johnson scored three one-yard rushing touchdowns, demonstrating his prowess in short-yardage situations, and also threw a crucial touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to keep MVSU’s hopes alive.

The Delta Devils’ tenacious effort, especially on offense, left head coach Vincent Dancy with a mix of frustration and pride. “We fought to the very end,” Dancy commented. “Caleb [Johnson] played his heart out, and our team showed character. We just need to find a way to make those critical stops and finish games.”

Bethune-Cookman held a slim lead for much of the second half, fending off multiple surges from Mississippi Valley State. The Wildcats’ defense, while tested, managed to make enough crucial stops to secure the victory, particularly late in the game.

With this win, Bethune-Cookman looks to build momentum as they navigate the remainder of their SWAC schedule. They will next prepare to face a formidable Florida A&M squad on November 4th. Mississippi Valley State, still searching for their first win of the season, will aim to rebound when they host Prairie View A&M next Saturday, November 4th.

The game provided plenty of excitement for the fans in attendance, showcasing the competitive spirit inherent in SWAC football and highlighting individual brilliance from both sides.
